A TASTE OF HOME: HOUSE TOUR
I love my home, and I'm sure like everyone else because it personal.. the place you go to relax and be at peace (or at least those are my greatest intentions). I love filling my home with special touches that are just about our story, the places we've been, the effort it took to find a specific item, the gift that someone gave us or simply the story that a piece of furniture could tell (if it could talk). I love all of these little corks and oddities that Scream home to me!
Like the picture above: I found this fun old punch jar at a thrift store and inside it could seem like just random branches, but they are branches from our Christmas tree last year (which was basically decorated branches). I remember that tree, the mess it made, the fact that we couldn't have a real tree so I broke branches off nearby trees to make something special.
I also love the challenge of decorating a small 580 sq. ft. house. It has made me become extra creative with the things I have and to incorporate them into my decorating. Like the books above, Marcus and I are both going to school right now and let me tell you his engineering degree comes with a lot of books. So for me I settled (a small section of them) under one of our dining chairs (that we don't have room for around the table) and used it as a side table for one of my favorite thrifted lamps. This way his books aren't all over the house and making me crazy, instead they bring some color and personality to our space.
These books were a gift from a friend, who knows me so well, they are old interior design books from the 70's. To me they are fantastic! They tell a story, one similar to what I'm currently on... the pages are filled with scribbles from a student long ago and I love it.
I've also come to notice that I love glassware, really anything that lets the light pour in and if it can hold something corky (ok that was a bad one) the the more the merrier. If you know me well then you are rolling your eyes because you are now thinking of all the different glasses that are filling up my cabinets.. but hey everyone needs a little something to hoard... right?
What's something that makes your home personal?
