meet the artist

Kendra Castillo

I spent most of my life in Bellingham, Washington. A place that sits at the edge of the ocean with beautiful lush islands and wooded mountains in the distance. This place and the many others that I have been lucky to travel to, are what constantly inspire my work. Textures, colors and the different creative energy that a place brings keeps me constantly on an adventure to find new beautiful that I haven’t experienced before.

I graduated from Montana State University with a degree in interior design. My love for functional beauty has transferred itself to my artwork and has led me to find creative ways that we can all be surrounded by unique things that inspire us.

I currently create original acrylic paintings that I then make into reproductions to help keep my artwork accessible. I believe art is a beautiful luxury that we all deserve to be surrounded by. My hope is that my art is able to reach as many people as possible whether through original paintings, prints or the items you find in my gift shop.

I hope you are able to find something you love and that will accentuate you already beautiful life!

a little note from Kendra ↓

… I guess the easiest way to say it is that I grew up with art, or better yet, art became my second language. When I was just a child I was often found observing and getting lost in an imaginative world and I found it hard to express myself.

Art helped me navigate deep feelings and make me feel free, art has always been in my life, but it would come and go depending on the season. After getting married and moving to a new state and new city, going to interior design school and then graduating… life gave us a curve ball. A series of unforeseen events left us without a place to call home, our belongings living in multiple states and I felt beyond lost.

Art was the thing to bring me back, to ground me again.

This is when I started painting with a handful of inexpensive craft store paints, I started snapping photos and sharing them on this thing called Instagram. To my surprise those paintings and the words paired with them started speaking to others. And from one person saying “Can I buy that painting?” I knew this was something that was important to keep sharing. Thats where this place was born from.

I will continue to make art because I believe it has a unique power to speak and bring joy and inspiration to our beautiful and complicated human lives. We all deserve to live with beauty and surround ourselves with things that inspire us, that is what I hope to always share with you all.

A few questions I get asked…

Q: Why do you paint Abstract Art?

It kind of just found its way to me. I’ve always seen life a little differently and even when I tried many different styles of artwork, Abstract art always felt like home. I see the world around me a little blurred and a little zoomed in. Like if you were to squint your eyes while watching the sunrise. I see the colors of those landscapes as unique shapes and color combinations that then translate onto canvas.

Q: What is the favorite place you have traveled to?

I got the opportunity to travel to many different countries after high school and spend many different months immersed in different cultures. My favorite place that I wish I could go back to would have to be India. The people and culture were so very different and so beautiful. It will forever have a piece of my heart!

Q: Did you go to art school?

Nope, I never went to art school, but I did get my education in interior design! I still take on clients and small design projects which is so much fun!

Q: How does your degree in interior design help your artwork?

I think it helps me think beyond a single painting that I create. When I work with my clients I am able to envision the space and how the painting will bring balance and help complete the entire vision for a room or building. Fun fact. I received my degree in Interior Design from Montana State University!

If I could tell you a few things they would have to be…

→I usually always have coffee near by

→ I’m an Enneagram 9W1

→ Having art become my career was something I never dreamed possible.

→ Creating artwork for people is seriously the most incredible gift and I never get tired of it!
