How to Refresh Your Home with Art This Spring and Summer

There's something about this time of year that makes you want to move things around.

Maybe it's the light shifting. Maybe it's the windows being open again and the air feeling different inside your home. Maybe it's just that quiet pull toward something new — a feeling that your space could use a little breathing room.

I feel it every spring. And every year, I'm reminded that a refresh doesn't have to mean a renovation. Sometimes it just means paying attention to what's on your walls.

Art has a way of changing the feeling of a room more quietly and more powerfully than most people expect. The right piece can shift the energy of a space, bring in warmth or calm, and make your home feel intentional again — like it reflects the season you're actually living in.

So if you've been feeling that pull toward change lately, here are a few ways art can help you refresh your home this spring and summer.

1. Let the color lead you

One of the easiest ways to bring a seasonal feeling into your home is through color.

Spring and summer have their own palette — greens, soft blues, warm creams, the occasional burst of golden light. When your wall art carries those tones, the whole room starts to feel more connected to the season outside.

You don't need to redecorate from scratch. Just ask yourself: does the art in my home feel like where I am right now?

If the answer is no, it might be time to swap something out.

Swaying is a print I keep coming back to for exactly this reason. It has that fresh, light-filled quality of early summer — lime and sage greens, soft blue-grey, the feeling of sunlight moving through leaves. In a room with warm neutrals or natural wood, it brings in just enough color to feel alive without overwhelming the space.

2. Bring nature inside

There's a reason so many people are drawn to nature-inspired art for their homes. It creates a sense of connection — to the outdoors, to something living and growing, to a pace that feels a little slower and more grounded than everyday life.

This is especially true in spring and summer, when we're spending more time outside and craving that same feeling indoors.

Art that evokes the natural world — botanicals, landscapes, abstract pieces that feel organic and lush — can do a lot to soften a space and make it feel more alive.

Effortless is one of my favorites for this. It's rich and textural, with deep greens, navy, white, and soft peach that feel like a garden at its fullest. It brings that lush, layered quality of summer into a room in a way that feels elevated and intentional, not literal or expected.

Soft green and blue landscape art print with open meadow, loose treeline, and pale sky, serene nature-inspired wall decor for dining rooms and everyday spaces. Print by Kendra Castillo, Bellingham Washington artist.

3. Think about where you spend the most time

A seasonal refresh doesn't have to happen everywhere at once. Start with the room you're in most — the one where a small shift would actually make a difference in how you feel day to day.

For a lot of people, that's the living room. But it might also be your dining room, your bedroom, or even a hallway you walk through every morning.

Think about the feeling you want in that space right now. Calm? Grounded? Light and open? And then ask whether the art on your walls is doing any of that work.

Tender Memories is a horizontal landscape print that works beautifully in spaces like a dining room or kitchen — places that don't always get a lot of art, but where the right piece can completely change the atmosphere. The open meadow, soft sky, and quiet greens give it a sense of stillness and ease that makes a room feel more like a place you want to actually sit and stay.

4. You don't need a lot — you just need the right thing

I think people sometimes put off refreshing their space because they're waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect piece, or a full room makeover to justify the change.

But that's rarely how it works.

Most of the time, one meaningful piece is all it takes to shift the feeling of a room. Something that brings in a new color, a new mood, or a sense of intention that wasn't there before.

That's what I think about when I'm creating prints — not just making something beautiful, but making something that does real work in the spaces people live in every day.

If your home is ready for a little refresh this season, I hope one of these pieces finds its way into your space.
